The Leadership Paradox

Wanting to lead is like wanting to be to be happy. Focusing on the act of being happy is ineffective; it is the antithesis of being happy.

Happiness is the result of actions taken and attitudes embraced which result in a state of bliss.  Although one can try to appear happy without the necessary actions and attitudes it often fails in the face of a minor bump in the road.

Ditto for wanting to lead.  Wanting to lead is the antithesis of leading.  Leadership is the result of actions taken and attitudes embraced resulting in a state of leading.  Specifically leadership is the result of a zeal or passion for something linked to goals about which others can get excited, engage, contribute and execute.

Focus on engaging others to join you in accomplishing that thing about which you are passionate and who knows, you might look back someday and discover you are leading.
